Subject: | Limiting the Location of Methadone and Suboxone Clinics |
In the near future I will be introducing legislation to limit the location of Methadone and Suboxone clinics so that they are not near schools or parks. This legislation would bar either of these clinics from being located near a school or children’s park. These medications are used by some individuals who are addicted to opiate drugs such as heroin and OxyContin to assist them in beginning the recovery process. However, these drugs have become abused and misused and this can sometimes create a dangerous environment that should not be in such close proximity to our children while they are playing at a park or going to school. Last year in Huntingdon, the trading of a weapon for Suboxone led to the death of a Pennsylvania state trooper and this is just one example of just how dangerous it can be. These clinics can be invaluable to the people who desperately need them for recovery, however our children do not need to be exposed to them at such a young age and we should make sure we continue to keep them safe. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
