MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 31, 2017 11:15 AM
From: Senator Thomas H. Killion
To: All Senate members
Subject: “Bullying Prevention Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania (Week of October 1 through 7, 2017)

Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating the week of October 1 through 7, 2017 as “Bullying Prevention Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania.

Bullying is defined as intentional, repeated behavior by one or more persons, which either physically or emotionally harms others. Bullying takes many forms and affects all classes, ages, religions, and communities without discrimination.

Bullying affects 28 percent of students in grades 6 to 12 and 20 percent of students in grades 9 to 12, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The Department’s Office for Safe Schools maintains a webpage containing resources on bullying prevention for parents, educators and professionals who serve our youth in and out-of-school.

The Department of Education’s Bullying Prevention Consultation Line 1-866-716-0424 is a toll free number that allows individuals experiencing bullying to discuss effective strategies and learn more about the resources that are available to deal with school-based bullying.

I hope you will join me in helping to raise awareness for bullying prevention in Pennsylvania.

Thank you for considering co-sponsoring this resolution.
