Subject: | Homeless Children’s Awareness Week |
In the coming week, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing the week of October 15 through 21, 2017, as “Homeless Children’s Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act states that children are homeless if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. Furthermore, children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population and are found in every county in Pennsylvania. During the 2014-15 school year, over 26,000 school age children and youth were reported as experiencing homelessness which made up about 1 percent of the total Pennsylvania public school enrollment population for that year. Please join me by co-sponsoring this resolution and help bring attention to the growing problems and issues children experiencing homelessness face throughout Pennsylvania. |
