Subject: | Men's Health Awareness Month - June 2017 |
In the near future I plan to introduce a resolution designating June 2017 as “Men's Health Awareness Month” and June 16, 2017 as “Men’s Fitness and Nutrition Education Day.” Recognizing the impact and importance of the 6.2 million men in Pennsylvania, it is important to shine a light on the health benefits of achieving personal wellness, making a commitment to physical fitness, eating nutritious, fresh, healthy foods, and modeling healthy lifestyles for our children and the next generation. Men are 24% less likely to visit their doctors and 22% less likely to get cholesterol checks. Routine health screenings can be a matter of life and death, especially for men. Preventive exams for men include blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks, prostate screenings, colon cancer screenings, skin cancer screenings, and tests for diabetes. Community health is everyone’s concern and shaping our environment so we can have more and easier access to good food choices is the biggest first step we can make for Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in raising awareness for the importance of a healthy lifestyle. |
