MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 17, 2017 04:02 PM
From: Senator Lawrence M. Farnese, Jr.
To: All Senate members
Subject: Continued Coverage for Family Planning and Women’s Health Care Services

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would ensure continued funding for family planning providers, if the federal government cuts Title X funding to these important healthcare providers.

Several proposals have been circulated at the federal level that would eliminate the ability of certain family planning providers, including Planned Parenthood, to receive Title X funding. Title X is a federal program dedicated to family planning and preventative health services, including cancer screening, STI testing and treatment, and contraception. It cannot be used for abortions. If family planning providers lose Title X eligibility, thousands of Pennsylvanians could lose access to safe, affordable family planning and preventative health services.

Similar to legislation recently enacted in Maryland, my legislation would provide state funding to ensure continued access to life-saving women’s health services and family planning services if the federal government fails to provide funding for these health care providers.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
