Subject: | Local taxation of natural gas, hazardous-liquid pipelines |
I will soon reintroduce legislation (SB905) that will make natural gas and hazardous-liquid transmission pipelines subject to taxation by local governments, including school districts. Pipelines subject to taxation would be as defined by Act 127 of 2011, Pennsylvania's Gas and Hazardous Liquids Pipeline Act. States including neighboring New Jersey, Ohio and West Virginia understand the value of these pipelines and how making them subject to taxation benefits local taxpayers. Under this legislation, Pennsylvania would join the long list of states that recognize the fairness of having pipeline companies financially support the local communities they must pass through in order to bring their product to market. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
Introduced as SB574
