Subject: Amending the Definition of "Emergency Vehicle"
 
Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation to ensure that a private vehicle used by a local emergency management coordinator is considered an “emergency vehicle” when the coordinator is responding to an emergency call in their official public duty.

Specifically, this bill amends the Vehicle Code by adding a local emergency management coordinator to the current list of public officials whose service in an emergency situation provides the legal authority for those officers to use a private vehicle as an emergency vehicle.

The provision would add only the officially recognized emergency management coordinator of the local government and it would be limited to only when the official is responding to a public emergency.

Similar legislation was introduced in the 2011-2012 legislative session as Senate Bill 1098.
