Subject: | Transparency in Campaign Fund Transfers |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would require disclosure when campaign funds are moved from a campaign for one elected office to a campaign of the same individual for a different elected office. Individuals and organizations often contribute money to one campaign, and those contributions are then used to fund a campaign for a different office without notice to the donor. I believe that candidates should be transparent about those transactions and give notice to their contributors if they intend to use their contribution for a different purpose. My bill would require a candidate to notify donors within 30 days if campaign funds are transferred to a campaign for a different office. Once notice is given, contributors will have 30 days to withdraw their donation. The transfer must also be disclosed on a candidate’s next campaign finance report. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important campaign finance reform measure. |
