Subject: | Legislation – Require Reporting of Anti-LGBT Violence |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that would require the Pennsylvania State Police to collect information relating to crimes and incidents related to sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. Under current law, the Pennsylvania State Police are required to collect information for crimes and incidents related to race color, religion, or national origin. My legislation would add “sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression” to the list. My legislation would also require that all data collected be shared with the Attorney General’s office. By gathering statistics for crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity, we are taking important steps to identify, understand, and prevent bias-motivated violence in the Commonwealth. Please join me by becoming a cosponsor of this legislation which will help to ensure that all people have the opportunity to live openly, honestly, and safely in their community without fear of harassment or violence. |
