Subject: | Revolving Door - State Regulators & Regulated Entities |
In the near future I will be introducing legislation to close the “revolving door” between state workers and the private industries that they regulate. This legislation would require executive branch employees to wait at least a year before accepting employment in the private sector in an area that they regulated as a public employee. The need for this reform was brought to my attention by a recent CBS News report that a now-defunct cheese company in my district was mislabeling products, improperly storing them, and possibly exposing consumers to deadly pathogens. This was despite receiving glowing reports from an inspector with the Department of Agriculture. That same inspector then left the Department to work at this company until they went bankrupt. It’s common sense to make sure that there’s no chance of impropriety when someone leaves a position where they had influence, regulatory authority over a company and then joins that very same company as an employee. Please join me in co-sponsoring this good-government legislation and contact Michael Rader of my office with any questions or concerns. |
