Subject: | Memo #20 - MH/ID Administrator Standards |
Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation which would set statewide training standards for county mental health and intellectual disability administrators and for those to whom they delegate their responsibilities under the Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities Act. The intent of this legislation is to establish some consistency and predictability in emergency and crisis intervention services across the state for those with mental health issues. The bill will require a base of knowledge regarding the Commonwealth’s current mental health laws as well as training in very specific scenarios for any county employee given the authority to decide whether mental health services are or are not necessary for an individual in crisis. Throughout my career, I have noticed inconsistencies in the way counties apply the laws and deliver mental health services. The Department of Human Services Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Pennsylvania Association of MH/ID County Administrators have provided input on the standardization of this training curriculum. Consistent statewide core training will help to ensure no one falls through the cracks. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office at 787-8524. |
