Subject: | Noxious Weed Control |
I will soon introduce legislation to add the following species of bamboo to the Noxious Weed Control List: Bambusa vulgaris, commonly known as common bamboo Phyllostachys aurea, commonly known as golden bamboo Pseudosasa, commonly known as arrow bamboo According to a 2015 Resolution (#15-08) from the PA State Association of Township Supervisors, these types of bamboo have a “devastating effect on Pennsylvania’s ecological system and must be controlled to eliminate future damage”. Once added to the list, local municipalities, with approval of the state’s Noxious Weed Control Committee (chaired by the Secretary of Agriculture), will have recourse to designate weed control areas to better control the impact of these invasive species. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
