Subject: | Ready to Succeed Scholarship Program |
I will be introducing legislation this session to establish the Ready to Succeed Scholarship Program beyond this current fiscal year. The program provides awards to high-achieving students with a minimum 3.25 G.P.A. and whose annual family income does not exceed $110,000. Students are nominated by their post-secondary institutions for when they have completed one academic year. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) administers Ready to Succeed with total awards of up to $2,000 for full-time/$1,000 for part-time students and minimum awards of $500. Awards can be used to cover tuition, books, fees, supplies, and living expenses. Ready to Succeed was instituted for one year only through Act 126 of 2014 with $5 million allocated for the program in FY 2014-2015 budget. PHEAA has done an outstanding job getting the program up and running for this academic year and my legislation will ensure Ready to Succeed scholarships may continue to be awarded if funding is available in future fiscal years. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions. |
