MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 9, 2014 08:13 AM
From: Senator Gene Yaw
To: All Senate members
Subject: Private Investigators and Security Professionals

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending the Private Detective Act of 1953.

My legislation would create a Board of Private Investigators and Security Professionals within the Department of State. The Board will establish new licensing categories for Private Investigator Agency(s); Private Investigator(s); Security Professional Agency(s); Unarmed Security Guard(s) & Armed Security Guard(s), as well as establish new licensing guidelines for these professions.

Under this legislative proposal, licensing of private investigators and security professionals would fall under the purview of the newly created Board, move from the county level to the state level, improving the uneven enforcement that currently exists from county to county, while improving oversight of these professions.

I hope you will join me in support of this legislation.
