Subject: | Legislation - Volunteer Firefighter Employment Protection |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that protects volunteers from fire companies, ambulance service or rescue squads from being penalized by employers for missing time at work to respond to a call. This legislation amends Title 35 (Health and Safety) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes by adding that employers who willfully violate the law regarding missed time for responding to an emergency would be required to pay the employee an amount equal to three times the lost wages as well as all attorney fees. Please join me in protecting volunteer emergency service responders from willful violators of the law. Thank you for your consideration. This was Senate Bill 1486 from last session, introduced by Senator Solobay and co-sponsored by Senators Fontana and Rafferty. |
Introduced as SB158
