Subject: | Memo #10 - Reporting System for Unemployment Compensation Benefits and Pre-employment Drug tests |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to establish an electronic reporting system for individuals that fail a pre-employment drug test for illegal substances while receiving unemployment benefits. In addition, the legislation will include a pro-rated reduction in benefits for individuals that continue to fail these tests while continuing to collect unemployment compensation. A number of large businesses in my district have indicated that they struggle to hire new labor due to the increasing number of failed pre-employment drug tests. The intent of this legislation is to reduce the unemployment benefits of those individuals that continue to abuse illegal drugs which subsequently make them unemployable. The electronic reporting system will be strictly for use by the Department of Labor and Industry for unemployment compensation purposes. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 717-787-6063. |
