Subject: | Resolution urging Congress to save all PA military installations |
In the near future, Senators Alloway, Blake and myself will introduce a joint resolution urging the Congress of the United States, the Department of Defense and the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission to take every action necessary to protect existing military bases in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania During the 2005 BRAC reductions, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania lost a greater percentage of positions in the four prior rounds of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission than any other state, with a total loss of 16,033 jobs consisting of 3,009 military and 13,024 civilian positions. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has: 213,000: Pennsylvania jobs from defense spending $30 billion: Defense contribution to the Pennsylvania economy $4.1 billion: Department of Defense contracts issued between October 1 and December 31 2013 for work completed in Pennsylvania 18,913: Full-time direct Pennsylvania jobs lost to the BRAC process to date This resolution would show that the Senate of Pennsylvania is united in the support of maintaining all military facilities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and urge the Congress, the Department of Defense and the BRAC Commission to support the same. That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the members of Congress from Pennsylvania, to Secretary of Defense and to the BRAC Commission. |
