| In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will require members of a water authority board to demonstrate technical proficiency in surface and ground water protection. Recently, due to a local water authority’s flouting of state standards, concerns have risen regarding the integrity of such boards. Water authority boards are given the task of supplying quality water and quality service to their customers while maintaining and operating the water infrastructure, all of which require decisions that are complex. My legislation will require board members of a water authority to possess technical proficiency in surface and ground water protection in order to be appointed. It will also require that members should be representative of the diverse geographic range of the municipalities served by the authority. I believe that this increased expertise is needed to rebuild the public trust and confidence in our local water authority boards. I ask you to join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
