Subject:	College to University Designation

Pennsylvania colleges are required under the School Code to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Education while meeting certain criteria in order to become a “university.” This process is long, financially burdensome, and often requires the college to seek an exception in order to qualify. I plan to introduce legislation that would simplify the process that a “college” must follow in order to become a “university.” This legislation was developed in cooperation with a number of existing colleges and universities and the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania.
