MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 2, 2013 02:57 PM
From: Senator Kim L. Ward
To: All Senate members
Subject: MEMO #30: Repealing the Presentment of the Flood Insurance Report to the General Assembly

I plan to introduce legislation that will repeal a requirement that the General Assembly be furnished with a print copy of an annual report required under the Flood Insurance Education and Information Act of 1996.

Act 10 of 1996 requires the Insurance Commissioner to issue a flood insurance consumer education plan annually to encourage PA residents to purchase and maintain flood insurance. The law specifically calls for a report detailing the plan to be delivered no later than March 1 of each year to the General Assembly.

Since this mandated report and other flood-related insurance data is readily available online at the Department’s website, my legislation will simply remove the requirement to produce a physical copy of the report to the General Assembly. In these tough economic times, it only makes sense to cut down on the cost of producing paper reports that are already available for public review.

If you have any questions about this legislation, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 717-787-6063. Thank you for your kind consideration of this request.
