Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 20, 2013 02:07 PM
From: Senator Timothy J. Solobay
To: All Senate members
Subject: Firefighter relief association funds.

I am introducing legislation that would amend the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association Act, Title 35 (Health and Safety), by adding a section to allow for the use of relief funds to pay for emergency medical service training.

As the law currently stands, relief association funds are not permitted to be used for this type of training – only “bona fide firefighters’ training schools.” Training is a critical component to the delivery and effectiveness of emergency services providers. Allowing for this expansion will in no way jeopardize or limit opportunities to firefighters. This bill would allow for the relief funds to be used specifically for emergency medical technician or paramedic training schools.

This legislation was SB 709 in the previous session.

Introduced as SB707
