Subject: | Co-Sponsorship Memorandum – Personal Income Tax Poverty Exemption |
In the near future, I will be reintroducing SB 1441 of the 2011-12 legislative session, legislation to increase the poverty exemption for the personal income tax by $1,000 per dependent. Under the proposal, the current exemption of $9,500 would be increased to $10,500, thereby increasing the income threshold for a married couple with two dependent children to qualify for the poverty exemption from $32,000 to $34,000. Governor Corbett’s proposed FY 2013-14 budget includes approximately $375,000,000 in business tax cuts. Yet, the individual taxpayer receives no tax relief. I believe that if further business tax cuts are to be considered in the 2013-14 budget negotiations, the needs of individual taxpayers also should be taken into consideration. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Previous co-sponsors were FARNESE, FONTANA, KITCHEN, TARTAGLIONE, SOLOBAY, SCHWANK, WILLIAMS, FERLO AND LEACH. |
