Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 11, 2013 02:17 PM
From: Senator James R. Brewster
To: All Senate members
Subject: Country of origin for prescriptions

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce SB 544 of 2011. This legislation would mandate the Pharmacy Board promulgate rules and regulations related to ensuring that each prescription filled includes the country of origin of the drug and/or device.

I have heard from numerous constituents who are concerned about the origin of their prescriptions for fear of it being the wrong type of medication. I believe this will provide a greater level of safety for patients filling prescriptions.

Thank you for your consideration.

SB 544 of 2011 was co-sponsored by Senators Fontana, Rafferty, Tartaglione, Stack, Costa, Boscola, and Washington.

Introduced as SB820
