Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 19, 2012 03:35 PM
From: Senator LeAnna M. Washington
To: All Senate members
Subject: One firearm purchase a month

Please join me as a cosponsor on my reintroduction of SB27 from the 2009-2010 sessions. This legislation would reduce illegal handgun trafficking in Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

My legislation is directed solely at illegal handgun traffic and would NOT restrict the sale of firearms to legitimate gun purchasers. If enacted, this legislation would help to mitigate the threat of handguns getting into the hands of criminals, children, or terrorist organizations with intention to harm.

Handguns are the leading cause of violent criminal homicide in our Commonwealth, and I believe we must act to reduce these very real threats while ensuring that the rights of law-abiding citizens who wish to purchase firearms are not infringed upon. I believe that this bill accomplishes this important goal.

Please contact my office at 717-787-1427 if you have any questions

Introduced as SB191
