MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 5, 2024 02:17 PM
From: Representative Ed Neilson and Rep. Stephenie Scialabba
To: All House members
Subject: Protecting Consumer Information and Privacy

Consumers today have their personal information collected with each online interaction. Despite this common practice, consumers often do not know how their data is being used or if it is sold to a third-party. They are also not given an opportunity to correct mistakes in their personal data or easily opt out of targeted advertising. Consumers have a right to privacy and deserve to know how their information is being used online.

In the near future, we intend to reintroduce legislation that gives consumers rights when it comes to their personal data and requires certain businesses to protect consumer privacy and limit the collection of consumer data. The Attorney General will have the exclusive authority to enforce violations.

This bill is an important step in protecting the privacy of Pennsylvania consumers. We must ensure that consumer personal data remains safe and secure. Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation.
