Subject: Homemade Sauerkraut Month
 
The Pennsylvania Dutch have blessed this Commonwealth with many honored traditions and foods they brought over from Germany centuries ago.  What began as a method to preserve their cabbage harvest over the winter months has become a mainstay on our tables. 
 
Cabbage is harvested in the late fall making October a prime month for fermentation and the making of sauerkraut. 
 
Please join me in recognizing October 2024 as homemade sauerkraut month in Pennsylvania.
