Subject: | Recognizing August 17, 2024 as "International Geocaching Day" |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing August 17, 2024 as “International Geocaching Day” in the Commonwealth. Geocaching is a safe, family-friendly, outdoor activity that involves the use of a hand-held GPS and a set of coordinates to find hidden treasures in public places of interest or historical significance. Engaging in outdoor activities, like geocaching, has been proven to have many physical and mental health benefits. Interestingly, geocaching has been around since May of 2000, when the first geocache was placed in Beavercreek, Oregon. Today, there are millions of geocache sites located on each of the seven continents, including thousands of such sites in Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests. The first International Geocaching Day was held in 2011 and occurs every year on the third Saturday of August. Please show your support of this fun, healthy and educational activity by adding your name as a cosponsor of this resolution. |
