MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 13, 2024 10:38 AM
From: Representative Aerion Abney and Rep. Lindsay Powell, Rep. Dan Frankel, Rep. Emily Kinkead, Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes, Rep. Abigail Salisbury, Rep. Nick Pisciottano
To: All House members
Subject: Downtown Reinvestment Program (DRIP)

Many of our Downtown areas across this Commonwealth are still struggling to rebound from the impacts of the pandemic. While local governments are developing new and creative ways to reimagine their city-cores, more can be done to support their planning efforts.

We will soon be introducing legislation that will enable and equip local governments with the tools and resources necessary to reinvest in the future success of their downtown areas. This legislation will allow local governments the ability to establish new and tailored funding mechanisms to address their unique needs and build upon their ongoing downtown revitalization efforts.

The success of downtown areas across this Commonwealth are critical to the local economy and the health of its surrounding regions. This legislation will encourage economic development initiatives aimed at attracting businesses, investors, and visitors to downtown areas.

We hope that you will join us in co-sponsoring the Downtown Reinvestment Program legislation and meet the urgency of the moment to ensure the prosperity of our downtowns for years to come.
