Subject: | National Infertility Awareness Week – April 21-27, 2024 |
In the United States, an estimated 1 in 8 people experience infertility issues when trying to start a family. According to the World Health Organization, 1 and 6 globally experience infertility issues with nearly 7 million families a year experiencing this phenomenon. Infertility affects individuals of all ages, genders, and race. Women and men can both face fertility problems, with male infertility being a factor in 50% of all cases. Although many individuals endure struggles with infertility, there is still a stigma around having open conversations about fertility issues. For those facing difficult decisions related to infertility, raising awareness helps reduce the stigma associated with this issue. As such, we will soon be introducing a resolution designating April 21-27, 2024, as “National Infertility Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania to help break down the feelings of shame surrounding infertility and support those struggling to build families. We believe everyone should have access to quality healthcare, including resources for family planning like In vitro fertilization (IVF), Intrauterine insemination (IUI), cryopreservation services, diagnostic testing, embryonic transfers and infertility medications. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution to show solidarity and reduce stigma with these families by promoting infertility awareness across the Commonwealth.
