Subject: | Court of Common Pleas Selection of President Judges |
In the near future I plan to introduce legislation that would require the president judge of all courts of common pleas in Pennsylvania to be selected by a majority vote of the judges on the court. Under current law, the president judge of all courts with seven or less judges is the judge who has the most seniority. In contrast, courts with eight or more judges select the president judge by a majority vote of the judges on the court. My legislation will require that all president judges be selected by a majority vote of the judges on the court. This will ensure uniformity and consistency throughout the Commonwealth in this very important process. Each president judge shall be selected for a three-year term. Finally, in an event of a tie vote the Supreme Court must appoint as the president judge one of the judges receiving the highest number of votes. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
