Subject: | RECORDS PRIVACY - CORONERS/ MEDICAL EXAMINERS |
County coroners and medical examiners have attested that no one autopsy is the same as the next. There are times when information (photos, very personal information, etc.) is collected during an autopsy that is very sensitive in nature to the individual and or their family. We understand the public needs to have access to certain parts to every autopsy that is performed. But we also understand that a family and surviving loved ones should also be protected from public disclosure of information that could be sensitive in nature. It is for this reason that we are proposing changing the language of Article XII-B Coroner of the County Code to allow the Coroner, Deputies, or Medical Examiner to keep information beyond name, date of death, the cause and manner of death from public disclosure when the information is deemed to be sensitive in nature, in accordance with the act of February 14, 2008 (P.L.6, No.3), known as the Right-to-Know Law. Join us in protecting families. This bill is supported by the Pennsylvania State Coroners Association (PSCA). |
