Subject: | Co-Sponsorship: Resolution designating September 18, 2023, as “Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.” |
Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder affecting a specific gene in chromosome 18 called TCF4. This genetic disorder is characterized by delays in development, breathing problems, seizures and epilepsy, gastrointestinal issues, a lack of speech, and distinctive facial features. Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome is so rare that only about 700 people have been diagnosed worldwide and unfortunately, there are no specific treatments for this disorder. In an effort to bring awareness within our Commonwealth of this rare genetic disorder, I plan to introduce a Resolution designating September 18, 2023, as “Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.” My Resolution will coincide with the International Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome Awareness Day. With that said, I encourage you to please join me in co-sponsoring this Resolution. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Takesha Latham in my Harrisburg Office via email at tlatham@pahouse.net. |
