| Subject: | A Resolution designating September 23, 2023, as “National Wild Turkey Federation Day” in Pennsylvania in conjunction with National Hunting & Fishing Day |
| In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution to designate September 23, 2023, as “National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Day” in Pennsylvania in conjunction with National Hunting & Fishing Day. As the National Wild Turkey Federation celebrates their 50th anniversary this year, it seems appropriate to recognize them for all they have done for the wild turkey population in Pennsylvania, as well as across the nation. Over 15,000 Pennsylvanians are active members of the NWTF, and the organization has opened 1,178 acres for hunting in the last five years across the Commonwealth. In Pennsylvania alone, the NWTF has helped to conserve/enhance 22,191 acres of wildlife habitat and completed 65 conservation projects with 22 more currently in progress. The NWTF’s dedication to their mission has led to huntable wild turkey populations in 49 states and over 22 million acres of wildlife habitat conserved or enhanced. They are committed to the ongoing research, education, conservation, and habitat of wild turkey populations. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution that recognizes this long-standing organization who has done so much for the wild turkey population in Pennsylvania and across the United States.
