Subject: May 2023 as "Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania
 
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution to recognize May 2023 as “Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.
 
EDS is a condition caused by a group of genetic disorders that affect connective tissue in the body, making them loose and unstable. EDS leads to regular dislocation of the joints, as well as fragile and hyper-elastic skin that bruises, scars and tears easily. It is estimated that at least 1 in 5,000 people worldwide are affected by EDS; however, this condition often goes undiagnosed.
 
Due to a lack of common knowledge and advances in treating EDS, there are currently only limited treatment options and no cure. By designating May as "Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania, I hope to further medical research and understanding of this little-known, potentially fatal, genetic disease.
