Subject: | Localized Minimum Wage |
Every community in Pennsylvania needs access to its own tools and resources in order to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is imperative that municipalities in our state have every possible resource available so that we can work together and get our economy going again. The 2006 amendment to our minimum wage law that prohibits individual municipalities from setting their own wages is outdated. It ignores differences in the cost of living and other factors from city to city and town to town. We have to give local governments the tools to customize solutions that work best for their citizens. I will be introducing legislation to repeal section 14.1 of Act 112 of 2006 of the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act. This act prohibits local municipalities from enacting a minimum wage separate from the statewide wage. This legislation would allow individual municipalities to adjust their minimum wage based on factors that affect workers in these communities. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important recovery tool for PA. |
