Subject: | World Scleroderma Day (June 29, 2023) |
Scleroderma is a rare group of autoimmune diseases that negatively impacts thousands of Americans’ skin through the development of rough or tight patches, which may constrict the ability to move. Scleroderma can also have negative consequences on the digestive system, heart, and lung functioning capabilities. As a relatively uncommon yet deadly disease, it is the responsibility of the legislature to bring awareness and educational materials to the forefront. “World Scleroderma Day” intends to educate and provide a platform that raises awareness of scleroderma – its causes, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options. Scleroderma can impact anyone, and specifically presents more often in women. Therefore, we plan to introduce a resolution designating June 29, 2023, as “World Scleroderma Day” in Pennsylvania. With the health and safety of all Pennsylvanians in mind, it is imperative that we take the time to foster more awareness to address this issue across this Commonwealth. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution to recognize those impacted by scleroderma. |
