Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 6, 2023 11:22 AM
From: Representative Tarah Probst
To: All House members
Subject: Preventing Charter School Conflicts of Interest

Every year, the members of the House and Senate vote on bills pertaining to the operation and funding of charter schools. Owning a charter school or serving on the board of a charter school raises a serious conflict of interest for members voting on these issues.

Conflicts of interest, such as these, erode the public’s trust in its elected representatives and should be avoided whenever possible. To achieve this, I will be introducing legislation that will prohibit members of the state legislature from owning, or serving on the board of directors, of any charter school or cyber charter school in Pennsylvania.

We must hold ourselves to a higher standard of impartiality and accountability. Please join me in sponsoring this common-sense legislation to increase government transparency in our state.
