Subject: Increasing Penalties for Misclassifying Workers

Misclassification is when an employer intentionally misclassifies their employees as independent contractors to save money.  This hurts workers the most, as it robs them of the benefits they should have been guaranteed under workers’ compensation or unemployment compensation.  If a worker is hurt on the job, through no fault of their own, they could be left footing the bill, because a dishonest employer misclassified them.  In addition, honest employers who follow the rules are left at a disadvantage because their competitors are cutting corners and breaking the law.

While misclassification is illegal, it still happens far too often. My bill will increase the penalties for misclassifying employees to help deter employers from misclassifying their employees and create a working environment that benefits Pennsylvania workers.

Please join me in protecting Pennsylvania workers and their rights by co-sponsoring this bill.
