MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 9, 2023 02:21 PM
From: Representative Abby Major
To: All House members
Subject: Cleaning up eligibility for special occasion permits in the liquor code (former HB 2175)

In the coming days, I plan to introduce legislation regarding special occasion permits.

As some of you may know, a special occasion permit or SOP, allows eligible entities (spelled out in the Liquor Code) the ability to sell alcohol during fundraising events such as bazaars, picnics, etc.

If an organization is not listed as an eligible entity, as defined in the Liquor Code, they are not able to utilize the SOP. To be eligible they must be specifically referenced in the Liquor Code.

My legislation seeks to clean up this antiquated section of the Liquor Code, allowing any 501 c 3 or 501 c 6 nonprofit organization to be eligible. This will ensure that going forward such organizations will not have to be specifically referenced in our Liquor Code.

Thank you for your consideration.
