Subject: Open Medical Staff
 
In the near future, I will introduce legislation that amends the Health Care Facilities Act to ensure that physicians have access to medical staff membership and can continue to provide appropriate care for their patients.
 
Exclusive contracting by non-profit hospitals and hospital networks is a critical health care issue in Pennsylvania. Physicians, fully licensed and credentialed by the state, should not be denied the right to join a medical staff. Medical staffs should not be closed to independent physicians and the proposed “Open Medical Staff” language will address this concern.
