MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 29, 2022 10:06 AM
From: Representative David H. Zimmerman
To: All House members
Subject: Concealed Firearms License Fee Waiver (Prior HB 946, 2021-2022)

In the near future I am planning to reintroduce prior House Bill 946. This legislation will permit the governing body of a county, after consultation with the sheriff, to waive the fee that is imposed for the issuance of a license to carry a concealed firearm, where the applicant is an honorably discharged veteran or a person who is 65 years of age or older.

The $20 fee is set by Statute, 18 Pa.C.S. §6109 (h). It includes a $1.50 fee for renewal notice processing, $5 administrative fee for the sheriff and $1 to support the Firearms License Validation System account.

The decision whether to waive the fee will be left to the discretion of each county, though I believe many will choose to honor our veterans and senior citizens by establishing this small benefit.

I welcome your participation in this legislation by co-sponsoring this bill.
