Subject: | Early Voting |
Over the last several years, early voting has become more common nationwide. According to the United States Election Project, more than 35 percent of the votes cast in 2020 were from in-person early voting. In 2020, Pennsylvania only had "early voting" by allowing voters to request a mail-in ballot at a county elections office, wait for it to get approved on the spot, fill it out, and turn it back in immediately. I propose a devoted system of true early voting, at more locations, which will increase voting access for our constituents. Under this bill, early voting would be permitted at early voting sites beginning 15 days prior to the dates of the primary and general elections. The early voting sites would be established by county boards of election. Additionally, All county early voting sites would be required to have uniform hours and days of operation and must be open at least eight hours on each weekday and a total of eight hours on weekends. County boards of election will be required to keep track of early voters to ensure they do not vote again at another early voting site or on Election Day. Please join me in expanding voting access to all Pennsylvania citizens by co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
