MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 19, 2022 01:58 PM
From: Representative Frank Burns
To: All House members
Subject: Charles J. Vizzini Memorial Bridge

Charles J. Vizzini was a native of Cambria Township, Pennsylvania, who served in the United States Army during World War II. While fighting in France, Mr. Vizzini was struck in the chest by bullets from a German automatic pistol but was saved when the bullets penetrated a Bible in his left breast pocket and a Catholic missal in his right breast pocket. Upon returning home to Cambria County, he received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Mr. Vizzini would later work as a coal miner and a steelworker and spent more than 25 years in the Department of the Auditor General. He was a well-known member of his community and a passionate advocate for the fellow veterans of Cambria County. Charles J. Vizzini passed away on August 11, 2009, at the age of 85.

In recognition of Charles J. Vizzini’s service and memory, I will be introducing legislation to designate a bridge on Rowena Drive in Ebensburg Borough, Cambria County as the Charles J. Vizzini Memorial Bridge.

Please join me in this effort to honor this local hero and to commemorate his service and memory.

Introduced as HB2631
