Subject: | Cosponsor - Addressing the EMS Staffing Crisis (COVID Waiver) |
For the last two years, emergency responders have been operating under a regulatory waiver that has allowed them to save lives and meet the public safety needs of our communities. The COVID-driven regulatory waiver gives long-needed staffing flexibility to EMS providers, who are facing a serious workforce crisis, while maintaining the health and safety of patients. Even before the pandemic, EMS providers faced a critical staffing crisis. Unfortunately, that crisis exploded during COVID. In order to ensure EMS providers are able to continue to operate and meet the healthcare needs of our communities, this flexibility must continue. My legislation would make this COVID Waiver permanent for Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support. If the legislature does not act, the waiver will expire on July 1. As a former emergency responder, I am confident the last two years have proven this to be an effective and safe way to address the EMS staffing crisis and increase access to critical healthcare. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
