Subject: | Concurrent Resolution Designating the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Hidden Heroes State |
Taking a shower. Getting dressed. Eating. Driving. These simple life tasks, which are often taken for granted, are things that some of our veterans are no longer able to do on their own. While we should continue to honor our wounded warriors, I believe that military and veteran caregivers also deserve recognition and support for their selfless acts of service. It is of utmost importance that Pennsylvania begin to acknowledge the dedication of caregivers in the daily lives of military personnel and veterans. We can start by designating the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Hidden Heroes state. The Hidden Heroes campaign is an initiative of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation that seeks to raise awareness of the issues and challenges that military and veteran caregivers confront everyday; inspire individuals, businesses, communities, and civic, faith, and government leaders to take action in supporting military and veteran caregivers in their communities; and establish a national registry to connect military and veteran caregivers to helpful resources and support. Countless spouses, parents, and other loved ones transform their lives and set aside their own careers to care for those who sacrificed for us. In most cases, caregivers begin this journey in total isolation, without any support. Hidden Heroes is a way to provide these selfless men and women with the help, recognition, and resources they need and deserve. Please join me in this effort to assist those who dedicate their lives to service. |
