MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 12, 2022 03:00 PM
From: Representative Wendi Thomas and Rep. Jared G. Solomon
To: All House members
Subject: Preparing Pennsylvania for the United States Semiquincentennial

In 2026 the United States will be celebrating its 250th anniversary. As members of the Pennsylvania Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial, it is part of our duties to prepare our state for this occasion so we can all remember our past, celebrate our present, and look forward to our future. Pennsylvania plays a significant role in the story of our nation, providing the perfect opportunity to engage students in their story and reflect on how it weaves into the unique fabric of Pennsylvania.

In preparation for this momentous occasion, we are introducing legislation to create a continuing development course for teachers called “What is your Pennsylvania Story.” This curriculum will encourage students to share their unique Pennsylvania and U.S. experiences. Students from all counties will connect with each other and create relationships that will begin now and continue through 2026 and beyond.

We believe it is important that classrooms embrace the story of our kids throughout the Commonwealth. We hope you will join us in supporting this legislation that will celebrate the stories that have enriched Pennsylvania and our country.

Introduced as HB2576
