MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 31, 2022 03:48 PM
From: Representative Timothy R. Bonner
To: All House members
Subject: Illegible Specialty Plates

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that will waive the replacement fee for armed forces, veteran or law enforcement related special plates.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) currently waives replacement plate fees for vehicle plates that are no longer legible from a reasonable distance. In order for this to occur, an individual must fill out a form and have a law enforcement officer verify that the plate is in fact illegible.

It is my belief that since PennDOT replaces standard plates for free if they are illegible, armed forces and first responders who pay extra out of their pocket for a specialty plate should be allowed the same service in honor of their commitment to public service.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB2561
