MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 29, 2022 01:40 PM
From: Representative Jared G. Solomon
To: All House members
Subject: Veterans Registry

Several years ago, I had the pleasure of sponsoring legislation that was signed into law as Act 69 of 2017, which established the Veterans Registry within the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). This registry provides veterans and their families with information on available federal, state, and local government benefits, programs, and services.

I intend to introduce legislation that would amend Act 69 of 2017 to provide for additional community outreach services to help ensure that all veterans are aware of the resources that are available to them. Specifically, this legislation would provide for information collected under the Veterans Registry to be transmitted to County Directors of Veterans Affairs and used by the DMVA’s PA VETConnect program for community outreach services.

PA VETConnect offers assistance in determining the needs of veterans, as well as their families and beneficiaries, and connects them with available resources. PA VETConnect has access to information that can assist County Directors of Veterans Affairs and other veteran advocates in providing services to veterans and those close to them regarding issues such as employment, financial assistance, substance use, mental wellness, and post-traumatic stress.

The Commonwealth should do all it can to properly serve those who served us. With that in mind, I believe it is imperative that information collected under the Veterans Registry be shared with County Directors of Veterans Affairs and PA VETConnect to further ensure that our state’s veterans are provided with information regarding resources that are available to better assist them and their families.

Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation.
