Subject: | Carbon Monoxide Alarms in Child Care Facilities |
Every year, hundreds of Americans die and about 50,000 are sent to the emergency room from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide has no smell or color, meaning people likely do not know they have a carbon monoxide leak until they are feeling the symptoms of headaches, dizziness, and nausea. My companion legislation to Senator Fontana’s Senate Bill 129 will require buildings that house child care facilities that have possible sources of carbon monoxide have one or more carbon monoxide alarms depending on the size of the building. Due to the covert nature of carbon monoxide leaks, it is crucial that child care facilities be outfitted with carbon monoxide alarms. A child complaining of a headache would not know that it is carbon monoxide poisoning, and a caregiver may not jump to that conclusion either. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation so we can ensure Pennsylvania children are protected from carbon monoxide poisoning. |
