Subject: Contractor Verification Legislation (Previously HB1021 of 2021)
 
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce HB 1021, my contractor verification legislation.  Over the last several months, I have held a number of discussions with stakeholders, and I believe the updated legislation will address some of the major concerns raised.  Notable changes include:
 
  • Moving the verification registry from the Office of Attorney General to the Department of Labor and Industry.
  • Providing a $2.5 million appropriation to fund the initial stages of the registry.
  • Reducing the renewal fee from $500 to $300.
  • Changing the information required for the verification.
  • Adding an offense for making false statements on the application.
  • Removing the ability to waive the registration requirement for contractors with gross receipts of less than $12,400.
